As I've already written, Cathy, Heatcliff's love (love of whole his life), chose another man... But she did not tell it to him, Heatcliff overheard her conversation with Nelly Din. Of course, it was a shock for him, because Cathy was sole darling and close man in this odd house. So, Heatcliff disappeared. Nobody knew where but everybody understood why. He lived somewhere for 3 years.
And it was a big white spot in this book. The author did it purposely to give us food for our brains. We could only know that he became a very rich and influential man with excellent manners (which we couldn't observe before). His speech became intelligent, his appearance changed to the best side.
So, the main question "Where did Heatcliff live and what did he do? "
remain unanswered for us. In my opinion, the main character could be successful in military career because it was mentioned in the text that his muscles became more and more full-blown and his bearing became straight. And also he could study somewhere and associate with different intelligent people because his speech became richer. As for his wealth, he could acquired it with the help of his own business, for example he could sell slaves ( as we know such kind a man, he really could do it).
Another people in our group have also read this book and I hope they'll want to tell us their own estimates.

Masha, that is an interesting observation.
ReplyDeleteMind your mistakes:
whole his life > his whole life
another people > other people
we know such kind a man> such a man could do it
So, the main question "Where did Heatcliff live and what did he do? "
remain unanswered for us.> remains
changed to the best side> to the best advantage/ for the best
We could only know that he became> the author only tells us...
